Spoilers for The Mandalorian and Star Wars content, in general.
Mark Hamill (left) and Sebastian Stan (right)
With nearly five decades worth of content, it is safe to say that the Star Wars Mythos plays host to a colorful myriad of memorable characters and storylines, be it from the films, television shows, video games, novels, or comic books. However, despite its lengthy roster, there still remains only one character in the galaxy far, far away that is loved beyond all else, Luke Skywalker. While Mark Hamill is unfortunately much too old to reprise his most iconic role, we believe, as much as many fans do, that Sebastian Stan is a genuinely viable option to take on the role of Skywalker. Thus, we have taken the liberty of providing a handful of reasons as to why Stan should be brought on to play the hero in the not-so-distant future.
1. Sebastian Stan bears an uncanny resemblance to Mark Hamill
Fanart depicting Sebastian Stan as Luke Skywalker
Of course, it should go without saying that we hold steadfast to the belief that looks should not be the main determining factor in any aspect of life, let alone in choosing the right actor for a specific role, but we would be lying if we discounted its importance when it comes to Luke Skywalker. Like all venerably established characters, finding the most suitable lookalike is imperative to the new depiction’s credibility. In the case of Sebastian Stan, the actor does bear a strange resemblance to Mark Hamill, and coupled with the fact that he is a splendid actor, he would therefore be the perfect casting choice should there be a Luke Skywalker story in the works.
2. A live-action Luke Skywalker: Jedi Master story is yet to be explored

Yes, we have certainly seen Luke Skywalker’s story evolve and grow through the various storylines proposed in the Star Wars video games, novels, and comic books. That being said, fans of the character, of which there are plenty, are yet to see a definitive portrayal of the hero’s time as a Jedi Master materialize on screen. In the original film trilogy, we see Skywalker’s journey from a humble moisture farmer on Tatooine to finally becoming a Jedi Knight by the end of the Return of the Jedi. Following that, the character has only ever appeared in a cameo role in the sequel trilogy and most recently in the finale of The Mandalorian: Season 2. Hence, we believe it is high time for audiences to receive a Sebastian Stan Luke Skywalker-led film or television series, where the character is depicted in his prime.

3. Course-correcting the Star Wars franchise

As we have discussed in a previous article, the portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. This ghastly depiction, along with other unfavored creative choices, has inadvertently caused the Star Wars franchise to lose its widespread appeal among the fandom. Although the recent The Mandalorian television show has done wonders to mitigate the damage since then, we still sense a substantial disturbance in the force where Luke Skywalker is concerned. Therefore, in order to restore the reputation of both Star Wars and Luke Skywalker, having Sebastian Stan step into the role of the Jedi Master and giving fans a narrative that respects the character’s legacy is truly a must should the studio intend to reinstate the franchise to its former glory.
Here is to hoping we see that dream come to fruition.
