Do not get us wrong: much like you, the moment we catch a whiff of a new Batman film in the works, the more compelled we are to scream, “TAKE MY MONEY!” and begin the arduous process of readying the supersized popcorn in anticipation. However, despite our ardent fanboying at the prospect of a new Dark Knight movie, we would be remiss if we did not address the troubling rumors flapping in the winds concerning this Matt Reeves helmed project. With that being said, here are three reasons as to why we believe you should be worried about this film.
1. Studio mandated reshoots for The Batman

It is no secret, the news of any hotly-anticipated film having to undergo reshoots, no matter how big or small, is often a cause for concern. While some movies in the past have managed to successfully showcase how said reshoots have aided in uplifting the quality of the film, there are plenty more movies that have had the adverse effect, crashing and burning as a result of the very obvious reshoots being added to the film. Such infamous examples of when-reshoots-go-wrong are 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2017’s Josstice League. However, to keep things optimistic, we sincerely hope that the reshoots for The Batman prove to be a boon for the film, or else we will be the first to rip it to shreds proverbially.
2. The feud between Pattinson and Reeves

While there is no such thing as an entirely pleasant experience working on a movie set, an ongoing feud between the leading actor and director of a movie sets a woeful precedent for a film both internally and externally. Regarding The Batman, it has been reported that the infighting between Pattinson and Reeves made the actor so utterly frustrated, that he was quoted saying he would never work with the director ever again. This, too, is a cause for alarm, as an actor not intending to work with a director on a project would spell ill-tidings for any potential sequels that may have been planned, assuming that the film makes money and the studio behind the film intends to maintain the same director.

3. Matt Reeves as a director

Although Robert Pattinson has managed to sever much of his Twilight baggage over the past few years with a string of commendable performances in The Lighthouse, Tenet, and The Devil All the Time, Matt Reeves, on the other hand, still remains a worrying choice of director for the upcoming Caped Crusader flick. The reason for this argument stems from his association with J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot, the latter of which is often referred to as Bad Reboot by fans, for the notorious producer is known for his somewhat lackluster offerings in the form of the Star Trek reboot films and the Star Wars prequel films. While we can only speculate on the degree to which Abrams has a say in 2022’s The Batman, we can only hope that the film does manage to provide a wholly entertaining experience worthy of any Batman film.
At the very least, even if the film turns out to be a complete stinker, we can most certainly look forward to procuring some cool collectibles from the movie; it does have a tantalizing batmobile, after all.
