Doctor Strange 2, a.k.a. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is as clear a hot mess as the name so aptly suggests. Although possessing some intriguing visual setpieces, the film largely carries no story other than the rudimentary fetch quest that is more often than not, in recent times, a cliched staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And out of the multitudes of plot holes and lazy writing that came with the movie, there is one particular fact that was left out of the film, creating a key plot hole for the movie right from the beginning. This, of course, is in how the Scarlet Witch learned about America Chavez and her multiverse-punching powers.

From the get-go, we are treated to eye-candy after eye-candy of America Chavez trying to flee for her life from giant monsters that have, for some inexplicable reason, at that point, want to either kill her or capture her. When the dust finally settles, and we learn that the Scarlet Witch was behind the attempts on Chavez’s life, there is not a single explanation as to how Wanda Maximoff learned of America Chavez’s existence in the first place.

AWESOME THOR FIGURINES? LOOK NO FURTHER

Sure, we learned what the Scarlet Witch had in store for the multiverse-punching teenage superhero, but there were next to no utterances about how Wanda came about this information.

We know what you are thinking: Wanda must have simply used The Darkhold to locate America Chavez. However, as much as we would like to believe that this is true, the fact that the point was never mentioned throughout the film only makes it all the more strange (pardon the pun).

And from what we know of the Scarlet Witch’s use of The Darkhold, she was only ever shown using it to peer into other universes whereby her children existed. Therefore, if the character was so fixated on that subject alone, how could she have learned of the existence of a conveniently created character that happens to punch her way through multiverses.

The movie, again, does in no way show the audience or, at the very least, tell the audience how this vital piece of information came to land in Wanda Maximoff’s lap. It creates a disconnect with the viewers as it seems as if there was another film or cutscene that we, the audience, have missed out on after WandaVision that could  help us understand and piece together the information of how Wanda knows Chavez.

The unfortunate fact that this crucial piece of information remained unaddressed throughout the entire runtime of the film is a terrific letdown, as it causes the logic of the film to collapse upon itself in the same vein as how the multiverse collapses on evil Doctor Strange.
